some lady (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV_vafIh8yY): most species like full sun and arid soil acquatic likes semi-shade swamp milkweed likes wetter soil the big 5 varieties: common, broadleaf, swmap, showy, butterfly. one is probably native to your region. plant in "light conditions".

the spruce https://www.thespruce.com/milkweed-plants-monarch-butterfly-host-2132954: 18" apart. plant in early spring, after the danger of frost has passed "and direct-sow seeds in the ground in the late fall". but also once its established, it'll spread. Also it's hella toxic (except to monarch butterflies), so farmers hate seeing it. (which is important if you plan to get permission to hunt a farm, and plan to fling milkweed all around) you want cold stratification, so start the seeds in fall, or indoors sometime in march. (date of writing: mid april. fuck.)
